It is not always easy for someone to donate for an organ to another person unless it is someone so dear and so close, probably a family member.

Most of the organs that are always on ‘high demand’ include kidneys, heart and in some instances, the skin. The study shows that people are more willing to donate blood than a body organ.

According to Ipsos, 74 percent of people in India are willing to donate an organ to another person. This makes India a leading nation in the world in which citizens are willing to donate a body organ.

Most people, especially in Kenya, often fly to India for specialized medication mostly in cancer-related complications.

Turkey comes in second with 72 percent of her citizens willing to donate a body organ, tying at the same position with Spain.

Here are the top 10 countries where people are willing to donate a body organ:

  1. India – 74%
  2. Turkey – 72%
  3. Spain – 72%
  4. Brazil – 70%
  5. Canada – 69%
  6. Australia – 68%
  7. United Kingdom – 67%
  8. Italy – 66%
  9. United States of America – 65%
  10. China – 62%

Other countries include France at 57 percent, Germany at 53 percent, South Korea at 39%, Japan at 33 percent and Russia at 30 percent.

Organ donation in Kenya

Until 2017, there was no law in Kenya that allowed organ donation in Kenya. In 2017, President Uhuru Kenyatta assented to a Bill that made it easier for Kenyan to donate their body or organs upon death. Even with the law in place, patients in Kenya continue to suffer to suffer because very few people are willing to donate their organs.
