What Telkom Kenya’s 100 Gigabit Upgrade in Five Towns Means to Customers

Telkom Kenya seems to mean serious business basing on its recent vibrant investment into the boosting of its infrastructure across various towns in Kenya.

In recent months, the third largest telecommunications company announced plans to expand its network coverage at a cost of one billion shillings.

The company is already in the process of upgrading the network capacity in five towns a way of improving network connectivity and cater for the ever growing demand of its services.

The towns to be covered during the upgrade include:

  • Nairobi
  • Kisumu
  • Mombasa
  • Eldoret
  • Nakuru

The upgrade will include, among other things, the IP core expansion from 30 Gigabit to 100 Gigabit. The expansion will allow the movement of higher capacities and more cost-effective network architectures.

With the upgrade, a section of customers who have been complaining of low internet services will have something to smile about because the internet service will be fast and efficient.

Kenya has been described as a browsing country with more than 112 percent mobile penetration with at least 90 percent internet penetration. Telecommunications companies are in the process of attracting data consumers through the strengthening of their structures.

In April, Telkom Kenya announced the role out of cloud-based fixed voice service named Omniconnect, set to enhance the enterprise landscape in Kenya.

The new service allows small medium enterprises (SMEs) and corporates to outsource for secure and innovative technologies to help advance and grow both their service and product delivery.

Enterprise customers who will subscribe to the service will be able to make and receive phone calls that will include among other things conference calls as well as the ability to integrate with email and mobile phones.
