Valery Aiyebei Shines at Safaricom Iten 10 KM Road Race

Eldoret City Marathon champion, Valery Aiyabei has today, 20^th August 2019, won the Safaricom Iten 10kilometre Road Race in Elgeyo Marakwet County for the second time in a record time of 32.29:6

Following in time of 32.34:5 was Edith Chelimo and Dorcas Jepchirchir at 32.50:7 followed by Valery Aiyabei at 32.29:6, Edith Chelimo at 32.34:5 and Dorcas Jepchirchir at 32.50:7.

“The race was competitive. Coming in second wasn’t bad, I’m happy with my results as it has helped me train and be ready for the new season,” Edith Chelimo, first runners up said.

In Men’s category, Mathew Kimeli who is 2019’s 15^th annual UAE Healthy Kidney 10K winner clocked a time of 28.57:00.

Second position winner Edwin Kiprop came in a time of 29.17:20 followed by Emmanuel Bor at 29.21:20

Winners received 50, 000 shillings, second position 40, 000 shillings and third 30, 000 shillings. The race flagged off at Bugar and ended at Iten grounds.

Other upcoming events in the Safaricom Athletics Series calendar are Kisii Half Marathon, 1^st Africa Deaf Athletics Championships-Kasarani, Mombasa International Marathon, Madoka Half Marathon, Isaiah Kiplagat Memorial Ndalat, Imenti South Road race and Kisumu City Marathon.

Elgeyo Marakwet County which hosts Iten town has long been known as the home of champions and is now also renowned as a top international training Centre for elite runners from all over the world.
