Name and Shame Them: Who to Blame for the Flooding of Toxic Products in Our Society
Is it for money, power, wealth or just greed, what has led our Country to its current situation where it is nothing less of a dumping sight and we are nothing but scavengers eating on what is provided despite it being trash?
Whoever created the phrase as greedy as hyenas had not met the section of human beings that does not mind killing a whole generation with toxic food products just to make a profit, avoid a loss or even pocket a bribe this is a crime against humanity and should be treated so.
There was a time it was unheard of that parents would bury their children but today, it’s not a shocker with the entry of cancer and other chronic illness that kill irrespective of age.
Who is to blame for the growing number of graves hosting lives lost through diseases such as cancer, it is time to shame the organizations behind these growing numbers of graves, either because of their negligence, inability or greed.
- The Kenya Bureau of Standards
The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) is a scam, an agency whose only mandate is to ensure goods consumed are fit for human beings but the authority has failed miserably and the consequences of its failures are the consumption of toxic, cancerous foodstuffs.
In one of its most recent big failures, the KEBS gave a letter of certification to a consignment despite health officials ordering otherwise as the product, ginger, was unfit for human consumption. Thanks to the KEBS officials, Kenyans are likely to have consumed the rotten product considered cancerous for the last one month.
- Pharmacy and Poisons Board
The pharmacy and poisons board is mandated with ensuring Kenyans get the right medicines but that too has failed as most pharmacies have been caught selling drugs that are illegal including family planning pills known to have adverse consequences.
Expired drugs are a norm in most pharmacies and most of the outlets in the slums and villages are not even licensed to operate and since most Kenyans cannot even tell the difference between a nurse, clinician or doctor, they become easy victims.
- Trade and Licensing Board
The Trade and Licensing Board is the gate that protects consumers from rogue traders and the board should be expected to move swiftly and de-license organizations that do not meet the set criteria.
- Government Chemist and Public Health Regulator
The Government chemist waits until the media airs news of poisonous products in the markets for it and other authorities to jump in and pretend to be acting until the news dies down and they fall back into slumber.
When a local media took samples from meat sold in various supermarkets and took it to the government chemist, it was found to be containing cancerous chemicals, the sections where was sold in supermarkets was closed especially in Naivas.
The meat at Naivas and other supermarkets is back, is it safe for consumption? Not even the government chemist can tell us!
- Pesticides and Chemicals Control Board
Kenya has not only become a dumping ground for unfit foods but is also taking in poisonous pesticides that contain active ingredients that are toxic not only to human health but also to the environment, threatening food security and affecting the safety of the food grown in Kenya.
At least 32 percent of pesticide active ingredients that are currently registered and are being sold in products in Kenya, has been withdrawn from the European market, due to their serious potential impact on human and environmental health.
