Name and Shame Them: Who to Blame for the Flooding of Toxic Products in Our Society

BY Soko Directory Team · September 27, 2019 08:09 am

Is it for money, power, wealth or just greed, what has led our Country to its current situation where it is nothing less of a dumping sight and we are nothing but scavengers eating on what is provided despite it being trash?

Whoever created the phrase as greedy as hyenas had not met the section of human beings that does not mind killing a whole generation with toxic food products just to make a profit, avoid a loss or even pocket a bribe this is a crime against humanity and should be treated so.

There was a time it was unheard of that parents would bury their children but today, it’s not a shocker with the entry of cancer and other chronic illness that kill irrespective of age.

Who is to blame for the growing number of graves hosting lives lost through diseases such as cancer, it is time to shame the organizations behind these growing numbers of graves, either because of their negligence, inability or greed.

  1. The Kenya Bureau of Standards

The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) is a scam, an agency whose only mandate is to ensure goods consumed are fit for human beings but the authority has failed miserably and the consequences of its failures are the consumption of toxic, cancerous foodstuffs.

In one of its most recent big failures, the KEBS gave a letter of certification to a consignment despite health officials ordering otherwise as the product, ginger, was unfit for human consumption. Thanks to the KEBS officials, Kenyans are likely to have consumed the rotten product considered cancerous for the last one month.

  1. Pharmacy and Poisons Board

The pharmacy and poisons board is mandated with ensuring Kenyans get the right medicines but that too has failed as most pharmacies have been caught selling drugs that are illegal including family planning pills known to have adverse consequences.

Expired drugs are a norm in most pharmacies and most of the outlets in the slums and villages are not even licensed to operate and since most Kenyans cannot even tell the difference between a nurse, clinician or doctor, they become easy victims.

  1. Trade and Licensing Board

The Trade and Licensing Board is the gate that protects consumers from rogue traders and the board should be expected to move swiftly and de-license organizations that do not meet the set criteria.

  1. Government Chemist and Public Health Regulator

The Government chemist waits until the media airs news of poisonous products in the markets for it and other authorities to jump in and pretend to be acting until the news dies down and they fall back into slumber.

When a local media took samples from meat sold in various supermarkets and took it to the government chemist, it was found to be containing cancerous chemicals, the sections where was sold in supermarkets was closed especially in Naivas.

The meat at Naivas and other supermarkets is back, is it safe for consumption? Not even the government chemist can tell us!

  1. Pesticides and Chemicals Control Board

Kenya has not only become a dumping ground for unfit foods but is also taking in poisonous pesticides that contain active ingredients that are toxic not only to human health but also to the environment, threatening food security and affecting the safety of the food grown in Kenya.

At least 32 percent of pesticide active ingredients that are currently registered and are being sold in products in Kenya, has been withdrawn from the European market, due to their serious potential impact on human and environmental health.

  1. Agriculture and Food Health Regulator

The agriculture and food health regulator has failed Kenyans most as it has miserably failed in its mandate to ensure health in agricultural products.

The authority is but a dummy that only sucks onto Kenyans hard-earned money while requesting them to get certification with them.

  1. Parliament

The parliament is where our laws are formulated, the members of parliament we watch on live proceedings throwing shade at each other and pouring water are somehow expected to be wise enough to decide what is right or wrong for us.

The supposedly respected house, Parliament, has left Kenyans to their own peril when it comes to ensuring product safety as there is barely time to formulate any meaningful laws apart from those regarding there allowances.

For the Kenyan parliamentarians, it is an open secret; they are too greedy to focus on our welfare despite voting for them to do so.

  1. Crooked Business Owners

How does one enjoy the wealth that has not only been gotten at the cost of living but lives?

Crooked business owners who can’t afford to make a loss will kill you slow at the price of a penny! Think of the individuals that add formalin to ensure the meat they are selling is attracting you enough?!

  1. The Corrupt Political Class

Kenya has a generation of politicians that assume they are demigods that can get whatever they want with the power handed to them.

They walk door to door begging for that vote which they will use to spite us back, a case study of the ongoing by-elections that is humbling people to kneel for pity, knocking from one door to the other in the impoverished Kibera slums.

Once the Kibra people have voted, they are likely to be seeing their next member of parliament on the screens, after all, is that not the norm?

The winner joins the rest in dining in fine restaurants and amassing wealth at the cost of the poor until the next elections are around the corner.

  1. US

Us…yes, you and I are to blame for the toxic cancerous products that have filled our society and as the next grave is dug, please take responsibility for your share of sins to Mother Nature.

Do we even have boundaries of how much we can take or not take? Do we hold them responsible and fight for the environment for the sake of our upcoming generations?

The next time you drop that piece of trash on the streets simply because no one is watching, please know you are as bad as all of them and in the ignorance of the consequences of your actions, are graves…some buried others waiting.
