CS Re-appoints A Dead Man To Serve As A Board Member

Kenya is a country of irony and controversy. It is a country ruled by drama and skits that are beyond the real world. Kenya seems to be the only country that thrives on paper but bleeds profusely from within.

The Jubilee government has been accused of neglecting the youth in state appointments and favoring political rejects, political retirees and old men and women. It is like, to be appointed in the current government, one must be old, preferably above 60 years and must have served as a politician.

In a new twist of state appointments, the government now seems tired of employing old men and women and is now bring back the dead to life and reappointing them to sit on government boards. This sounds like something from the Walking Dead but as they say, this is Kenya.

ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru on Wednesday, October 16th, announced the reappointment of Mr. Robert Kochalle (may his soul RIP) to serve as a member of the board of the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB).

Mr. Robert Kochalle died in May 2018 but had to ressurect and reapplied for his former position and the CS was considerate enough to reappoint him.

In a statement through a gazette notice, the CS said, “in exercise of powers conferred by Section 11A (e) of the Film and Stage Plays Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Information, re-appoints Gathoni Kung’u, Robert Kochalle, Nereah Aluoch Okanga as members of Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) for a period of three (3) years, with effect from 21st of October, 2019.”

The mistake by the CS shows how people are appointed or reappointed in government positions without even carrying out a background check on them. The truth is, we cannot blanketly blame the CS on this because the names emanated from the Kenya Film and Classification Board (KFCB) and some heads must roll.
