George Njao Appointed The New NTSA Director General

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has appointed George Njao as the new director general.

Mr. Njao has been appointed for a period of three years after what has been described as a “vigorous interview.”

In a statement sent to newsrooms, Mr. George Njao replaces Mr. Francis Meja, who completed his three-year contract.

Mr. Njao comes to NTSA with 15 years experience in the transport sector according to NTSA chairperson Alice Chesire.

He holds a Master’s degree and a Bachelor’s degree from Central Missouri State University, USA.

The NTSA Board has hailed the outgoing director general for being instrumental in bringing various changes at the authority in trying to minimize road accidents from the Kenyan roads.

The NTSA is tasked with ensuring that Kenya’s transport sector adheres to traffic rules and cuts down on the numerous road accidents especially during the festive season.

At one point, President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered NTSA out of the Kenyan roads and handed the mandate to the traffic police department but the move seemed to backfire as chaos returned on the Kenyan roads.

In recent months, NTSA has started making a comeback, arresting drunk drivers as well as cancelling operational licenses for various public service vehicles (PSVs)
