Oranges Retailing Cheapest in Nairobi, a Kg Going for Ksh 40

A spot check in the fruit market in Nairobi, Nakuru and Eldoret has revealed that a 93 Kg bag of oranges is retailing at an average price of 4,460 shillings.

Among the three markets observed, Nairobi had the cheapest prices of oranges with a 93 Kilogram bag retailing at an average of 3,800 shillings, meaning that a kilogram of the fruit is being sold at roughly 40 shillings.

In Nakuru and Eldoret, the prices of oranges are dramatically high, as compared to Nairobi, with a 93 Kg bag retailing at 4,800 shillings in both towns.

Lemons, commonly used to infuse teas and for cooking, are retailing at an average price of 2,800 shillings per 95 Kgs in the three markets observed.

In Nakuru, a 95 Kg bag is retailing at 2,700 shillings, while in Nairobi and Eldoret, the fruit is retailing at 2,850 shillings.

A medium bunch of ripe bananas, roughly 14 Kgs, is retailing at an average price of 650 shillings.

In Nairobi and Eldoret, a medium bunch of bananas is being sold at 600 shillings, while in Nakuru, the price is higher by 150 shillings, where the retail price is 750 shillings.
