President Donald Trump Acquitted By The Senate

The Senate in the United States of America, on Wednesday, acquitted President Donald Trump at the impeachment trial, officially keeping him in office.

President Trump, during the impeachment by the Congress, was accused that he abused his power, as well as obstructing Congress in investigating him. Trump is said to have used foreign powers to incriminate his political rivals during his election period.

To remove Trump from office, the Senate needed at least 67 votes, to hit the threshold necessary for removal but neither the articles of impeachment got even a simple majority of the votes.

On the first accusation, abuse of power, only 48 senators voted for while 52 rejected it. On the accusation obstruction of Congress, 47 senators voted for while 57 rejected it. Senator Mitt Romney, Republican of Utah, was the only member to break with his party, voting to remove Mr. Trump from office.

The acquittal of Mr. Trump now brings to an end a five-month blaring scandal over Ukrain that embroiled Whitehouse and threatened his presidency.

President Trump is running for reelection that comes in 9 months with analysts saying he is likely to win given the support and approval rates he has been receiving lately from the Americans especially in job creation.

War with Iran

On January 3, 2020, a United States drone strike near the Baghdad International Airport targeted and killed Iranian major general Qasem Soleimani of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in what President Trump celebrated as a victory towards defeating ISIS and winning the war in Syria.

Iran threatened to retaliate to revenge the killing of Soleimani sending dozens of rockets to American military bases in Iraq though no death of an American soldier was reported.

The increasing tension between the United States of America and Iran brought back memories of World Wars and there were fears of an outbreak of World War III but both sides dismissed the claims.
