Top 5 Gainers, Losers And Movers For March 9, 2020

Activities at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) continue to remain volatile in the wake of the fast-spreading deadly Coronavirus. It also comes at a time when big banks in Kenya are releasing their full-year financial results.

Activities are slowly picking up days after the NSE 20 Sare Index hit its lowest in 10 years of 2337 points. The index has started rising with the latest stats indicating it closing at 2400.56, a 2.72 percent increase from the previous week.

On Monday, March 9, 2020, the top gainer of the day at the NSE was Flame Tree Group with 8.33 percent at the price of 1.43 shillings per share followed by Standard Group with 7.67 percent at the price of 23.15 shillings per share.

Olympia Capital and Stanbic Holdings were third and fourth gainers of the day on Monday with 6.38 and 6.14 percent at the price of 2.50 and 116.75 shillings per share respectively. Eveready East Africa closed the top 5 gainers’ table with 4.17 percent at 4.17 shillings per share.

The top loser of the day on Monday was TPS East Africa (Serena) with 9.35 percent at the price of 14.05 shillings per share followed by Home Afrika with 9.09 percent at the price of 0.40 shillings per share.

Express was the third top loser of the day with 8.00 percent at the price of 5.98 shillings per share followed by Safaricom at 7.29 percent at the price of 27.35 shillings per share. Safaricom has seen its price per share dropping slightly but analysts say it is likely to pick up today.

Despite being among the top losers of the day on Monday, Safaricom still emerged at the top mover after selling 28.11 million shares in volume followed by KCB Group with 4.60 million shares.

Equity Group sold 1.60 million shares followed by Co-operative Bank with 708,900 shares. WPP ScanGroup sold 544,100 shares during the session on Monday.

Among the top movers on Monday, three banks dominated; KCB Group, Equity Group, and the Co-operative Bank.
