Uganda Drives Out 22 Foreigners Over Coronavirus Fears

The Ugandan government has told 22 foreigners who had landed into the country on Sunday of March 8, 2020, to return to their home countries over coronavirus fears.

The 22 foreigners jetted into the country for a Uganda–Europe Business forum but refused to self-quarantine themselves forcing the Ugandan Government to act ‘appropriately’ and send them out of the country.

According to the Ugandan Ministry of Health, all foreigners jetting into the country are supposed to self-quarantine themselves for two weeks but the 22 foreign nationals were unwilling to adhere to the policy thus sent away.

The Ministry, however, said that none of the 22 foreigners tested positive for coronavirus but it was taking the action to ensure the well-being of the people of Uganda.

“Yesterday, we received 22 passengers from the Category 1 countries who were identified by our health workers at the airport. None of them exhibited signs and symptoms of Covid-19. We informed them about our procedure of self-quarantine for 14 days. However, they were not willing to undergo this self-quarantine. Today, they will return to their home countries,” the Ministry announced.

The Ugandan Ministry of health however assured the Ugandan citizens that there was no suspected or confirmed case of the Coronavirus.

Kenya has not yet confirmed any case of the virus but has had several suspected cases that have turned out negative.

Health experts have however cautioned Kenyans to be vigilant and ensure they take all the necessary precautions just to be safe in case the virus comes knocking.

“Let us not imagine that the virus is far away from us, it could emerge from any point in this country, therefore there is a need to be highly alert,” advised an expert.

So far Egypt has reported the highest confirmed cases of the deadly covid19 virus in Africa where recently a German national succumbed to the virus.

Globally, about 100 countries have reported confirmed cases of the coronavirus infection which has hit 105,000.

Coronavirus has so far claimed the lives of over 3800 people worldwide.
