The Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has kicked out 31 Staff members from the ministry as efforts to eradicate cartels from the ministry commence.

This comes just a day after the Health CS announced that he would bring sanity to the ministry by kicking out cartels and anyone who has been involved in misappropriation of funds.

In a letter seen by most media houses, the 31 have been transferred to other sectors and were told to leave their desks latest by Friday, May 1, 2020.

The employees transferred included senior public servants from the finance sector who were controlling MoH’s budget and were getting access to billions of shillings in the past years.

The transfers also affected the other ministries including the ministry of sports, Education, Interior, and Ministry of Petroleum.

“By copy of this letter, the Cabinet Secretaries of ministries affected are requested to inform the officers to report to the State Department of Devolution for deployment after the successful handing over but not later than Friday, May 1,” read the letter.

Those transferred will now report to work at the National Treasury, Environment. Devolution, National Youth Service, and the Nairobi Metropolis offices.

During the week, MoH was blasted after it revealed its Covid-19 expenditure where critics said the agency was taking advantage of the crisis in the country to embezzle funds.

Kenyans went rogue on social media after seeing that MoH spent 4 million on tea and snacks while 9 million was spent on printing of forms and other documents.

However, CS Kagwe during a press briefing, said misappropriation of public funds would not happen under his watch and he promised to crack the whip on those found guilty.

“There will be no theft of Covid-19 resources under my watch and if there is any truth regarding the misuse of Covid-19 funds, beyond being disheartened, I guarantee you that those responsible will be out of the ministry faster than we can blink, “said CS Kagwe.
