Some Kenyans Who Tested Positive Of Covid-19 Are Nowhere To Be Found

Some Kenyans who tested positive of Covid-19 have disappeared into thin air after giving false information about their phone numbers.

In a rather dangerous move that is likely to reverse all efforts to fight Covid-19 in Kenya, some Kenyans who are turning up for tests are hiding their true identity by giving false information including false contact details.

“Kenyans are turning up for free tests, give contact details, results come back positive and when they are contacted, the numbers either belong to other people or are invalid,” said the Ministry of Health during a brief on Tuesday.

The Ministry of Health, therefore, has been releasing some numbers of positive cases without knowing where the patients are, a clear presentation of a time bomb in waiting.

The revelation by the ministry also means that there are Kenyans who have tested positive for Covid-19 but still walking freely and mingling with other people, in the process, spreading the virus far and wide.

“People should not be scared. The government is taking care of all the costs, right from the quarantine to the hospital. People should not run away for fearing the costs,” said Health CAS Rashid Aman.

There are others who test positive, turn up for treatment but warn those they were in contact with to go into hiding. There are cases where husbands are testing positive but send their wives and children into hiding.

On Tuesday, the total number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 rose to 1,348 after 62 new cases were recorded in 24 hours.

The Ministry of Health projects that between the month of August and September, Kenya is likely to be registering at least 200 positive cases every 24 hours.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, during his speech to the nation hinted on the possibility of lifting the curfews and cessation of movements but the way numbers are spiking, he might be forced to rethink his decision.
