COVID-19 has introduced a new way of life and that’s wearing of face masks, too many of us, masks have become an essential part of our everyday life, but did you know that wearing face masks can cause Maskne according to scientists?
Scientists say that maskne is caused by constant rubbing of the face masks against our skin which causes micro-tears, allowing easier entry for bacteria and dirt to clog up our pores.
Breathing into a mask also creates a hot and moist environment that leads to the build-up of sweat, oil, and bacteria. Add on the fact that face masks are occlusive nature, and it’s a recipe for skin disaster.
Some doctors advise patients to opt for more lightweight water-based products underneath the mask, a lightweight moisturizer can also act as an additional protective barrier and prevent chafing.
Ideally, doctors say we should also be using a mild and gentle exfoliator to support the absorption of our moisturizer.
