TSC Releases New Disability Guide Allowances For All Job Groups/Grades 2022

The Teacher Service Commission, TSC, Disability Guide Allowance applies to employees with disabilities and requires personal assistants to perform their duties. Teachers who are living with disability are required to be registered with the National Council for Persons with Disability

TSC in collaboration with the National Council for persons with Disability (NCPWD) determines the type, nature, and degree of disability.

It is important to note that any employee with special needs shall be required to:

1. Declare disability at the time of employment,
2. Declare disability that occurs in the course of employment,
3. Register and obtain a disability registration certificate from the NCPWD which shall be subjected to scrutiny before acceptance,
4. Declare their disability status once registered by the NCPWD within a reasonable period acceptable to the Commission which shall be determined from time to time

On the other hand, teachers with Disability are exempted from paying the Pay As You Earn Tax (PAYE). Interestingly, the commission pays the same amount of disability guide allowance to teachers across all grades. This simply means that the Teachers Service Commission does not discriminate at all.

Primary school teachers are required to have an entry grade of B5 while secondary school teachers require C1 and C2 for diploma and degree certificate holders respectively.

The entry grade for teachers in primary schools is B5 while the entry grades for teachers in Secondary schools are C1 and C2 for diploma and degree certificate holders respectively. TSC for the first time has set aside 5% for the July advertised vacancies for teachers with disabilities.

The commission has directed county directors to see to it that 5% of the recently advertised posts are reserved for the recruitment of teachers with disabilities across the country.

“The Commission shall ensure that 5 percent of all the advertised slots are reserved for the recruitment of teachers with disabilities in accordance to the provisions of the Constitution and the Law,” read a statement from the commission.
