Liz Truss Serves For 44 Days, Quits As Prime Minister Of UK

Liz Truss resigned as the UK Prime minister after only 44 days in office. Liz now becomes the shortest-serving prime minister in Britain’s history after the public, MPs and the markets comprehensively rejected her style of leadership.

Liz Truss replaced Boris Johnson who was unceremoniously thrown out of office after the economy of Britain started running into shambles. Liz entered with fire, pomp, and color only to throw in the towel after pressure mounted on her.

“I recognise that given the situation I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party. I have therefore spoken to His Majesty the King to notify him that I am resigning as leader of the Conservative Party,” Truss said.

Since Brexit, Britain has been unstable. The cost of living has skyrocketed, inflation is through the roof, and the unemployment rate has been going up too. The war between Ukraine and Russia has made matters worse in terms of the availability of gas.

Liz Truss on Thursday met with Graham Brady, the chair of the 1922 committee of backbench Conservative MPs that ultimately has the power to decide her fate, Downing Street said. “After the meeting, it was clear that she had no future as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.”

On Thursday, Truss was forced to announce her own resignation, a week after firing her finance minister and “ideological soulmate”, Kwasi Kwarteng, in a desperate bid to shore up her position.
