Kenyan Shillings Melts Further, Sheds More Against The US Dollar

KEY POINTS

Total equity turnover rose by 212.14 percent to close at USD 2.89 MN (380.17 million shillings) compared to yesterday's turnover of USD 0.93 million (121.79 million shillings). 

Exchange Rate Performance

The Kenyan shilling has continued with its weakening trend, weakening by 0.10 percent to close at 131.53 shillings  (-6.61 percent year-to-date) against the US Dollar.

At the same time, the local currency weakened by 0.50 percent against the British Pound to close at 161.29 shillings (-8.64 percent year-to-date). The shilling also weakened by 0.38 percent against the Euro to close at 141.75 (-7.99 percent year-to-date).

Total equity turnover rose by 212.14 percent to close at USD 2.89 MN (380.17 million shillings) compared to yesterday’s turnover of USD 0.93 million (121.79 million shillings).

NSE 20 gained 0.78 percent to close at 1,581.11 while NASI shed 0.24 percent to close at 111.56.

Foreign investors assumed a net buying position by accounting for 41.98 percent of total market purchases and 31.90 percent of total market sales.
