The United States of America has issued a security alert to US Citizens living in Kenya over the ongoing nationwide demonstrations by the Azimio Kenya set for every Monday and Thursday. The US says the demonstrations are set to go on for an “indefinite period of time.”
The US Embassy in Kenya has told its citizens to make sure that their travel documents including IDs and passports are up to date, within reach, and have in place their own evacuation plans that might not require the assistance of the US Government.
“Avoid crowds, keep a low profile, and notify friends and family of your safety. Beware of your surroundings and review your security plans,” the alert adds. This comes in the wave of violent protests that have been rocking both Nairobi and Kisumu.

The United States has become the first country in the world to caution citizens about the ongoing demos in Kenya. So far, no country has outrightly called out either side for the ongoing demonstrations that are hitting hard on the already-shuttered economy.
The African Union also issued a statement calling on both President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga to have “dialogue for the peace and sustainability of the country,” calling for a ceasefire that might “plunge the country into turmoil.”
Raila Odinga has announced that he will be rallying his supporters to demonstrate every Monday and Thursday until his demands, including the lowering of the cost of living, are met by President William Ruto and his government of Kenya Kwanza.
