How To Check If Your HELB Loan Is Disbursed, Application Status

Have you applied for a HELB Loan this year? Have you received your HELB loan? The Higher Education Loans Board has put smiles on the faces of many University and College Students.

A message that your HELB loan has been disbursed is the best news that you can receive as a student. Recently, the HELB announced that it has finalized processing loans for first-year students in universities and TVETs

In May 2023, President William Ruto unveiled a new funding model for Higher Education Funding (HEF). Under this model, learners are grouped into four categories, vulnerable, extremely needy, needy, or less needy.

The vulnerable in universities receive 100 percent scholarships with the government scholarship paying 82 percent while the loan takes 18 percent.

The extremely needy students will receive 70 percent of government scholarships while the loans will contribute to 30 percent of the tuition fee. The needy and less needy receive 93 percent of government scholarships with seven percent being household contributions in meeting the fee requirement.

How To Register For A HELB Account

  1. Visit the Higher Education Loans Board portal website helb.co.ke
  2. Click on Products
  3. Scroll down to the HELB loans section
  4. Select any of these. They will lead you to the student portal
  5. “undergraduate loan” if you are a direct entry student
  6. Jielimishe loan if you are a student with a salary
  7. TVET loan for those in Technical and Vocational education
  8. Scroll down to the bottom and click ‘Apply Now’

How To Check HELB Loan Status Via USSD Code

  1. Dial *642# Select the option Register Enter the serial number of your National ID card Enter your National ID
  2. Next, create a 4-digit PIN Next, select 00 to go to the Main Menu, or close and log in again with your PIN Select either the option Loan Application Status or Loan
  3. Disbursement Select your loan type and then the academic year After a short while you will receive your HELB loan disbursement status through SMS.

How to Check Your HELB Loan Status

  1. Go to your browser and visit the HELB website helb.co.ke
  2. On the page menu items click on the student portal (You must be registered)
  3. Login using your details
  4. Click on “loan status”
  5. Click on “Disbursement” a form indicating your loan disbursement status will appear
  6. You can check the amount awarded and the date disbursed
  7. You can also check with the bank that you used the first time when you registered for HELB. Students with HELB smart cards can also use it to check their loan disbursement status.

Activation

  1. Go to your email and locate the HELB account email.
  2. Click on the link provided and begin the activation process
  3. Once you get the code, enter it and hit Proceed
  4. This will create a HELB portal account to help you apply for other products
