NSSF Set To Relaunch Haba Haba As Part Of Its Strategic Plan

The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has met with stakeholders including employers to take them through its Corporate Strategic Plan as the year 2024 gains momentum. The event was to put stakeholders in the know of what NSSF has in store for them.

The stakeholders session, held at Golden Tulip Hotel, comes at a time when employers will be required to adhere to the new enhanced rates for the year 2024 which take effect from February in an annual adjustment as stated in the NSSF Act 2013.

Speaking during the session, Dr. Christopher Khisa, the Manager of Public Relations and Communication at the National Social and Security Fund (NSSF), said that the Fund is currently paying out claims within 10 days of being sought by members.

“We are working towards paying claims in a single day by the year 2027. We know that our members need their claims and we want to make sure that they access the claims as to when they need it and when the time comes,” said Dr. Khisa.

At the same time, Dr. Khisa said that NSSF is planning to relaunch its Haba Haba products that target members in the informal sector. Haba Haba enables members to save as little as 25 shillings per day and to access 50 percent of their savings after consistently paying for 5 years.

Dr. Khisa cautioned members against being swayed by other players handling Tier II saying that despite some of them using the term “NSSF”, they solely handle members’ money and if such players disappear with the money, NSSF is not held liable.

“Be careful about those who handle Tier II. Those who do will charge you interest. NSSF does not charge you any interest. It is your money. We take it and invest it for you,” he said.

NSSF is also working towards going full tech with the current relaunch of its WhatsApp Chatbot. The Chatbot enables those seeking NSSF services to get all of them at a simple click of a button like; registering to be members, checking on their registration status, and paying for their monthly contributions, among others.
