The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) offers social protection to all workers in Kenya by providing social security to workers in the formal and informal sectors.

NSSF is mandated to implement the NSSF Act, 2013, and Article 43 of the Kenya Constitution on Economic and Social Rights.

In terms of monthly contributions to be remitted, the NSSF Act, 2013 contains clear details of how the contributions would be graduated through the first 5 years of being implemented.

The law directs that baseline salaries for subsequent years be 7,000 shillings for the second year of implementation, 8,000 shillings for the third year, and 9,000 shillings for the fourth year, and the gazetted minimum monthly wage starting the fifth year.

“The lower earnings limit and the upper earnings limit shall, for the first four years after commencement date, be by the table contained in the schedule,” said the Act.

NSSF, has, therefore, notified all Employers that effective February 2024 payroll, the NSSF Contribution Rates for the Second Year will be as indicated below:

“Remittances to the Fund should be made by the 9th day of each subsequent month. Employers should not hesitate to reach out to the Fund for any clarification. Our team is dedicated to supporting employers to attain compliance with the NSSF Act,” said NSSF in a statement.

“The Fund wishes to thank all those Employers who have continued to remit the contributions of their workers since operationalization of the NSSF Act, 2013.”
