Kenya Airways has officially launched direct flights to Maputo, Mozambique further solidifying KQ’s commitment to strengthening its network and offering seamless travel experiences across the continent. This is a new route that KQ hopes will open opportunities for millions of Kenyans.

“Today’s launch is a tangible testament to KQ’s remarkable progress and the exciting future ahead. As we unveil our 45th destination – Maputo – we mark a major milestone in our network expansion journey. The launch of the Maputo flights is part of Kenya Airways’ commitment aimed at enhancing connectivity across the African continent to contribute to its long-term economic progress,” said Allan Kilavuka, the CEO of Kenya Airways.

KQ will operate three flights per week to Maputo, with Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays becoming the flexible gateways to exploring this dynamic city.

Beyond Maputo, KQ says that this expansion complements KQ’s broader network strategy for FY2024, which also boasts increased frequencies to popular destinations like New York, Paris, Lagos, Accra, and Freetown.

“At Kenya Airways, our vision is to dismantle the barriers that hinder connectivity within Africa. Efficient air connectivity remains the single most viable solution to bridge the vast geographical expanse of Africa. By leveraging air travel, we unlock the potential to significantly boost trade, strengthen economies, and unlock a multitude of benefits for the entire continent,” Kilavuka added.

On his part, Julius Thairu, the Chief Commercial and Customer Officer at Kenya Airways, said that Kenya Airways direct flights to Maputo will improve connectivity and convenience for travelers, reducing travel time and the need for stopovers. In addition, Kenya Airways will be flying to Maputo three times a week.

“Maputo serves as a vital gateway to southern Africa, unlocking a wealth of economic and cultural exchange opportunities. As Africa’s travel market continues to be one of the most dynamic and lucrative globally, this expansion strengthens Kenya Airways’ position as the preferred African carrier,” he said.
