KCB Women’s Lawn Tennis team cruised past nemesis Equity Bank to clinch the top prize after a riveting 2-1 win in the final at the ongoing 2024 Kenya Institute of Bankers (KIB) interbank tournament.

On the other hand, despite showcasing a valiant display in the final, the men’s team fell short 1-2 to a highly spirited Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) side to finish runners-up at the event that was held at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies (KSMS).

Commenting after the team’s triumph, Charlotte Naswa said: “It is a proud moment for us after an invigorating experience during this year’s competition. Compared to last year, teams are stepping up and the competition gets tougher. My teammate Diana and I have a great chemistry together, we have also been intentional with our approach to matches that is why we won here today. I look forward to next year already.”

The competition features football, tug-of-war, volleyball, chess, darts, basketball, athletics, squash, scrabble, swimming, golf, netball, snooker, draughts, table tennis and lawn tennis.

KCB netball team outclassed Bank of Baroda 14-7, defeated ABSA  15 -9, overpowered CBK 16 -6, won 32-0 over NCBA, cruised 20-5 past KCB Cooperative Bank and saw off  CA 30-1 to set up a mouth-watering final against Equity Bank to be played later this afternoon at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies.

In the macho tug-of-war affair, KCB trounced Equity Bank 2-0 in the semi-finals last night to book a place in the final with their opponents set to be determined. On the other hand, the women’s volleyball team is set to face Cooperative Bank tomorrow September 24 at the KCB Sports Club, Ruaraka. Their male counterparts will play Cooperative Bank at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies (KSMS) tomorrow.

The men’s football affair saw a blistering encounter at the ABSA Sports Club yesterday where KCB side lost 0-1 to Equity in front of a raucous fans from both sides. The defending champions now shift their gears to tomorrow’s third-place playoff at the same venue against Bank of Africa (BOA).

The Interbank Sports, which will culminate in a closing event on Saturday has always played a major role in bringing together staff within the banking industry in a free and friendly sporting atmosphere.
