The Kenya Meteorological Department urged Kenyans to brace for dry weather and freezing nights in the next seven days.

Kenya Met Director David Gikungu said that few parts will remain relatively wet with moderate rains.

“Most parts of Kenya will experience generally sunny and dry conditions. However, expect light to moderate rainfall in parts of the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, and the Coast,” Met said.

In a weather forecast, Kenya Met Director David Gikungu told Kenyans to prepare for night temperatures below 10°C and hot daytime temperatures up to 30°C.

He added that low night-time temperatures of up to 10°C would be experienced in the Central Highlands, Central and South Rift Valley, and South-Eastern Lowlands. Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi are among the counties set to experience such temperature

Other include; Kisii, Nyamira, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Busia and Migori.

“Prepare for high temperatures exceeding 30°C in the South Rift Valley, Coast, Western, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya during the day.”

Gikungu disclosed that night temperatures in the above regions would fluctuate between 10°C and 11°C. High daytime temperatures exceeding 30°C were forecasted to be experienced in the South Rift Valley, Coast, Western, North-Eastern, and North-western Kenya.

Last week, the Meteorological Department told the country to brace for a chilly and rainy September. Director David Gikungu said they expected the cold season to extend deep into the month.

“The month of September has normally been one that you can pick any day for an outdoor event and you will be fine weather-wise, but that is not the case now,” he said.

The counties forecasted to experience hot days include; Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Isiolo, Turkana, and Samburu.
