How Kenyan Electric Boda Industry Has Eliminated The Need To Charge Batteries On The Go

One of the major concerns about electric motorbikes in Kenya has been the charging duration. Many think that it takes a longer time to charge an electric motorbike, hence inconveniencing someone who might have an urgent travel, especially a boda boda rider.

As much as there is some truth in the above statement, with Spiro Kenya, a rider does not have to worry about the charging duration because the company has what are called “Battery-Swapping Stations” across major towns in Kenya such as Nairobi and Mombasa.

Battery-Swapping Stations are specially designated areas where riders go to swap their batteries with fully-charged ones, eliminating the wastage of time that might have resulted if the rider were to charge the depleted battery.

Battery-swapping stations have helped to boost the electric boda boda business across the country. The popularity of electric motorbikes in Kenya continues to grow as Kenyans rush to have a piece of the silence and the convenience that comes with it.

Spiro Kenya Kenya says it is planning to add at least 50,000 electric motorbikes to the Kenyan catalog by the end of 2025. “Our assembly plant in Kenya has the capacity to produce at least 50,000 motorbikes in Kenya this year,” said the company in a statement.

As the transport sector remains a critical focus for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, innovations like battery-swapping technology are poised to play a pivotal role in achieving the nation’s climate goals.

Kenya’s journey toward sustainable mobility is gaining momentum, and the collaboration between Spiro Kenya and Global Moving Experts represents a significant step forward in the country’s transition to a greener future.
