KUCCPS Finally Opens University And College Placement Portal, How To Apply

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) officially opened its online application portal for the 2025 university and college placement on Friday, March 28.
This announcement comes as a significant step for thousands of 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates seeking higher education opportunities across the country.
In its statement, KUCCPS urged all eligible candidates to take advantage of the open portal to apply for their preferred courses in various institutions, including universities, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centers, and Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs).
The placement service emphasized that students now have the opportunity to select degree programs, diploma courses, and certificate programs in institutions accredited by the government.
How To Apply
To facilitate the application process, KUCCPS provided clear guidelines for candidates.
Students interested in applying are required to visit the official KUCCPS portal through the link https://t.co/6ssPlKURCd.
Upon accessing the portal, they will be prompted to log in using their KCSE index number, the year they sat for the exam, and a password.
Candidates can use either their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) index number or their birth certificate number as their password.
KUCCPS reassured applicants that the online system is designed to guide them through the application process smoothly.

The service further clarified that students could revise their choices within the application window, which will remain open for three weeks, with a deadline set for April 21, 2025.
The placement service highlighted that the application portal provides access to various institutions across the country. These include:
40 Public Universities: Students applying to these institutions are eligible for both government scholarships and financial aid through the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).
29 Private Universities: While these institutions are included in the placement process, students admitted here will only be eligible for HELB loans and not government scholarships.
263 Public Colleges: These institutions, primarily offering diploma and certificate courses, qualify for both government scholarships and HELB funding.
KUCCPS urged applicants to carefully consider their options, research their preferred institutions, and make informed decisions regarding their course selections.
The opening of the application portal comes just two days after a significant legal development. The Court of Appeal temporarily lifted a suspension that had been placed on the government’s new university funding model, allowing KUCCPS to proceed with the placement process.
This ruling provided clarity on the continuity of university admissions and financial aid allocations under the new system.
The government’s revised funding model aims to enhance transparency and efficiency in university and college placements. It is designed to prioritize students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds while ensuring that institutions receive adequate funding to maintain academic excellence.
With the application window now open, KUCCPS has urged all eligible students to take prompt action and submit their applications before the deadline. The placement service also reminded applicants to carefully review their choices, as their selections will determine their educational path in the coming years.
As the process unfolds, KUCCPS will provide further updates and assistance to students through its official channels. Candidates are encouraged to stay informed, seek guidance from their teachers or career advisors, and utilize KUCCPS support services in case of any difficulties during the application process.
For now, 2024 KCSE candidates have a crucial three-week period to secure placements in institutions of their choice, setting the stage for their academic and professional futures.
