Kenya Power has announced a series of planned electricity outages set to affect multiple areas across the country today, Thursday, April 16, 2026. The scheduled interruptions are part of routine maintenance works aimed at improving the stability and reliability of the national power grid.

According to the utility company, the maintenance will involve upgrading power lines, replacing aging equipment, and connecting new customers to the network. While these works are necessary to ensure better service in the long run, they are expected to cause temporary inconvenience to both households and businesses.

Among the regions expected to experience blackouts are parts of Nairobi, Kiambu, Mombasa, and other major towns. The outages are scheduled to begin in the morning hours, typically around 9:00 a.m., and may last until late afternoon, depending on the complexity of the work being carried out in each area.

Kenya Power has urged customers in the affected areas to treat all power lines as live during the maintenance period, as electricity supply may be restored earlier than expected in some locations. The company also encouraged the public to be patient as the works are meant to improve service delivery and reduce unplanned outages in the future.

Despite the inconvenience, such maintenance exercises are a common part of managing a growing electricity network. With demand for power continuing to rise, regular upgrades are necessary to keep up with new connections and prevent major system failures.

Customers seeking more details about the affected areas and specific outage times have been advised to check official communication channels provided by Kenya Power.
