KMTC Announces Full Scholarship Opportunities, Dateline And How To Apply

The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has announced a major scholarship opportunity for students seeking to pursue medical training in the 2026/2027 academic year, offering fully funded slots for a Certificate course in Community Health Nursing.
In a notice released on Thursday, May 14, KMTC Chief Executive Officer Kelly Oluoch confirmed that the scholarships will support students enrolling in the two-year programme set to begin in September 2026.
According to the announcement, beneficiaries of the programme will receive full financial support throughout the duration of their studies, easing the burden of tuition and related training costs for successful applicants.
KMTC revealed that the scholarship programme is being offered in partnership with the Beyond Zero Initiative, a health-focused campaign aimed at improving healthcare access and maternal services across Kenya.
βThe Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), in partnership with the Beyond Zero Initiative, is offering scholarship opportunities for the Certificate course in Community Health Nursing commencing September 2026 in the 2026/2027 academic year,β part of the notice stated.
The institution explained that the scholarships are part of wider efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery at the grassroots level by increasing the number of trained healthcare workers serving in remote and underserved regions.
Priority will be given to applicants from Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) counties, minority communities, and other vulnerable or marginalized groups that often face challenges in accessing quality healthcare services and educational opportunities.
KMTC further noted that applicants must demonstrate a commitment to serving their communities after completing the training. Female candidates have particularly been encouraged to apply as part of efforts to promote gender inclusivity in the healthcare sector.
To qualify for the scholarship, candidates must have obtained a minimum Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade of C- (minus) or its equivalent.
Applicants are also required to have scored at least a C- (minus) in either English or Kiswahili, as well as Biology. In addition, they must have attained a minimum grade of D+ (plus) in any one of the following science subjects: Mathematics, Physics, or Chemistry.
As part of the application process, candidates will also be required to submit a handwritten essay of not more than 200 words explaining why they deserve the scholarship opportunity and how they intend to use the skills acquired to positively impact their communities after graduation.
The move comes at a time when Kenya continues to face shortages of healthcare workers in several rural and marginalized regions, with the government and health institutions increasingly investing in community-based healthcare systems.
Community Health Nursing plays a critical role in preventive healthcare, maternal and child health services, disease surveillance, health education, and improving access to basic medical services at the local level.
By sponsoring students from disadvantaged backgrounds, KMTC and its partners hope to nurture a new generation of healthcare professionals who will help bridge the healthcare gap in underserved parts of the country.
The scholarship announcement is expected to attract thousands of applicants from across the country, particularly among students passionate about pursuing careers in healthcare but limited by financial constraints.
Interested candidates have been advised to carefully review the application requirements and ensure all supporting documents are submitted within the stipulated timelines once the application process officially opens.
