TSC Announces Mass Recruitment Of Teachers, Requirements, Application Deadline And How To Apply

The Teachers Service Commission, TSC, has opened 54,016 teaching positions, split between 34,016 promotion slots for teachers already on its payroll and 20,000 fresh post-primary posts meant for Junior Schools.
Tuesday’s announcement ranks among the biggest hiring drives TSC has run, aimed squarely at plugging staffing gaps that have piled up in schools nationwide.
TSC says qualified teachers and curriculum officers can now apply for promotions across several grades — Chief Principal and Senior Principal among the top tiers, with Principal, Deputy Principal, Senior Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, Senior Master, Senior Teacher and Senior Lecturer positions also up for grabs.
Anyone eyeing a promotion has until midnight on August 10, 2026, to get their application in, and it has to go through the Teachers Online portal.
“Interested candidates should submit their applications online through the TSC portal: teachersonline.go.ke, to be received no later than Monday, August 10, 2026, midnight,” the Commission said.
Senior Teacher II positions make up the bulk of the openings at 13,490, with Senior Master IV close behind at 5,956 and Senior Teacher I accounting for another 4,210. Further down the list, TSC is also filling 3,075 Deputy Headteacher II slots, 1,865 Deputy Headteacher I slots, 1,665 Senior Master III posts, 1,068 Deputy Principal III posts and 891 Deputy Principal II posts.
“Successful candidates shall be posted to schools where vacancies are available. We are an equal opportunity employer and people with disabilities are encouraged to apply,” the Commission added.
Separately, TSC has advertised the 20,000 post-primary teaching posts for junior schools, positions created to keep the Competency-Based Education curriculum running smoothly. Applications for these open later — between August 18 and August 31, 2026 — and must also be lodged through the TSC website.
Eligibility is fairly specific: applicants need to be Kenyan citizens, hold at least a Diploma in Education, have scored a minimum of C+ in their KCSE overall as well as C+ in two teaching subjects, and be registered with TSC. Anyone previously sacked by the Commission over disciplinary issues need not apply, and the Commission insists hiring will be strictly merit-based.
TSC used the announcement to renew a familiar warning. “The recruitment exercise is free of charge. TSC forewarns applicants against fraudsters who might extort money from unsuspecting persons purporting to assist in recruitment,” it cautioned.
The twin recruitment and promotion exercise fits into the Commission’s broader push to beef up staffing in schools and keep CBE implementation on track in Junior Schools.
