Why Some Politicians Are Opposed To IFMIS

There have been calls from some quarters of the political world for IFMIS to be removed from operating in some counties with most people voicing those opinions being county governors. Here are three reasons why some of these people are opposed to the e-procurement system;
- IFMIS is effective. They are afraid because IFMIS is effective in terms of managing the public finances and since most of them are ineffective, they are scared of the system taking away the credit that they think would have been theirs.
- They are afraid of their shoddy deals being exposed by IFMIS. It ensures that budgeted public funds are spent on the on the purpose that they are budgeted for. This implies that any attempt to want to divert the funds to other purposes will be exposed and brought to the public limelight.
- Tenders will no longer be rigged for IFMIS does not permit that. Procurement is now electronic from the time any tender is announced, awarded all the way to the payment making the process effective, accountable and transparent.
