Expectations of Kenyans as the 2017/2018 National Budget is Read

The 2017/2018 financial year National Budget will be read in Parliament by the Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich this afternoon.

The Treasury is expected to present a budget worth 2.62 trillion shillings. The budget, according to the Treasury will be in deficit of 1.7 trillion shillings to be sponsored by Kenyans through taxes as well as both local and foreign borrowing.

Key to note is that the government has said that it will not be burdening Kenyans with further taxes from what they are currently paying.

As the 2017/18 budget is read, Kenyans are worried about a number of things and now all eyes are focused on Henry Rotich to see if he will address them.

Majority of Kenyans are concerned about the ever-skyrocketing cost of living that has been brought about by the high cost of foodstuffs. The high cost of foodstuffs led to the rising of inflation for the month of February to more than 9 percent and indicators are that the inflation for March might be even higher.

The cost of fuel is also in the mind of Kenyans and they are hoping that the matter will be addressed in the budget. For the and three months, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has been increasing the prices of petrol, diesel and kerosene.
