Matatu Operators in Kasarani have barricaded roads leading to Mwiki and other areas in the Constituency protesting obviously pathetic roads a month since they held another protest.

Kasarani matatu operators and residents expressed their frustration, anger, and disappointment in the Constituency and County leadership saying leaders only remembered them during campaigns and disappear on them once voted in.

The Kasarani matatu operators are demanding that the Nairobi leadership come to their aid and fulfill its mandate in ensuring passable roads as promised during campaigns with the constant mention of Mercy Gakuya, the area member of Parliament.

Mercy Gakuya has been accused of neglecting her duties as the Kasarani member of parliament and failing to represent the concerns of the constituents as voted to.

Mwiki residents who rely on the Mwiki Kasarani route had to today, 13th January 2020, walk to Kasarani to board vehicles to their various destinations despite heavy rains rocking Nairobi.

Motorists from Mwiki could not use the Kasarani- Mwiki road as it barricaded with lit bonfires ongoing making it not only inaccessible but unsafe for use.

Kasarani to Mwiki road remains closed and unsafe for motorists especially from Kasarani Maternity to Maji Mazuri as motorists and matatu operators continue to push for better roads and relief from the pothole road that is unsafe for their vehicles.

The Kasarani Mwiki strike organizers assembled at 8 am at Hunters stage where they discussed on way ahead.

The Kasarani-Mwiki road has been a cause for protests for the last half-decade with little to no action being taken, the road lacks drainage leading to potholes every rainy season, the same case applies to all Kasarani feeder roads.

Passengers who include school-going children are forced to walk through the chilling weather and mad as the protests normally occur during rainy seasons when the road deteriorates making it unsafe for children who have to walk through the protests.
