How To Pay For Your Air Ticket Using Bonga Points

Safaricom customers can now pay for their air tickets using Bonga Points following a partnership between the regional low-cost carrier and Safaricom.
Bonga Points, Safaricom’s loyalty program that awards customers a point for every 10 shillings spent on the network have come a long way because, in recent times, we have seen the carrier try to give customers more channels to redeem them.
Safaricom customers can now pay for their air tickets using Bonga Points following a partnership between the regional low-cost carrier, Jambojet and Safaricom.
The partnership comes at a time when the aviation industry is in turmoil following the disruptions caused by the Covid-19 that saw airlines around the world grounded.
The airlines can now allow Safaricom customers to redeem their Bonga Points to purchase flight tickets to any of its local destinations.
To purchase a ticket using Bonga Points, here is what you need to do
- Dial *126#
- Select ‘Lipa Na Bonga Points’
- Select ‘Pay Bill’
- You will be asked to enter the flight pay bill number.
- Enter the account number, which is the reference number issued during the booking
- Input the amount you want to pay via Bong Points
- You will then receive a response showing the number of points needed to pay for the ticket
- If the points are not enough for a full ticket purchase, you will receive a text alerting you of the balance due.
The number of Bonga Points needed to redeem for an air ticket depends on the fare displayed at the time of booking. For redemption, 1 Bonga point is equivalent to 20 cents.

Bonga is a loyalty scheme launched by Safaricom in 2007 to allow its customers to accumulate and redeem points based on usage of services on its network.
August 2020, Jambojet introduced a Progressive Web App (PWA) to allow customers to book tickets, check-in, and access their boarding pass on their smartphones.
PWA, which is available on both Android and iOS, offers convenience to customers while streamlining processes, to save time and help reduce physical touchpoints. Unlike standard mobile apps or the web, PWAs consume fewer data and are reliable even in uncertain network conditions.
