As Covid-19 continues to spread across the country, employers and enterprises of whatever nature including public bodies, the private sector, government offices, and others have been directed to allow employees to work from home.
Your birth certificate is the first identification document to enable you to access some services at the government. Once you reach 18 years, you can then apply for a National Identity card, but you will still need your birth certificate to do this.
Having your birth certificate can help ease the application of other important documents you might require in life such as passport, visas, ID, or in some other cases, applying for a school.
It is thus recommended to follow up on your child’s birth certificate to enable him or her to have a smooth sailing where this document is required. A child born in Kenya should be registered for a birth certificate immediately after birth or 6 months after.
One can access various services on eCitizen including applying for Birth Certificates. One must create an account on eCitizen, using their ID card number, and the form is populated using data from the Integrated Population Registration Service.

Steps
An online form is filled and relevant documents in PDF format submitted. The form contains two options, whether one is applying for a new certificate or a replacement.
Proceed to choose a new birth certificate and approve that the child was born in a health facility. If you had applied earlier online, you can be allowed to amend the child’s name, remove spelling mistakes or add an extra name, but only for children below 2 years.
For new applications, one must decline the amendment option and acknowledge that the child is under 18 years then proceed to fill County of Birth, Hospital of Birth, and Birth Notification Number. A scanned PDF copy of the Birth Notification will also be attached.
Three names of the child plus gender will be filled. The name and ID number of both parents, together with scanned copies of the IDs will be uploaded unless one is a single parent.
A pickup location for the certificate will then be chosen from the options included. For Nairobi, one can pick from Huduma Makadara, ACK Bishop House, Huduma Centres in GPO, City Square, Makadara, Eastleigh, and Kibera. One will be notified via SMS when the certificate is ready for pick up.
