The stage is set for the climax of the 2023 NCBA Golf Series as the picturesque 18-hole Sigona Golf Club plays host to the series’ Grand Finale this Friday, December 1, 2023.

This eagerly anticipated event will see golfers who triumphed in their club competitions gather for the ultimate showdown, competing for the series’ top honors in the Overall, Men’s, Ladies, and Junior categories.

This year’s Grand Finale has a total prize pool of Kes 300,000, with each of the three top finishers— the Overall Winner, Men’s Category winner, and Ladies’ Category winner— receiving the Kes 100,000 cash prize.

Among the golfers who are expected to put up a strong challenge to the title include Kevin Mbatia of Railway Golf Club, who clinched the overall victory in his home club’s leg, and Limuru’s duo of Paul Muchangi and John Kariuki, who demonstrated their prowess with impressive scores of 73 and 76 gross, respectively, during their club’s tournaments.

All eyes will also be on the skilled scratch golfer John Odhiambo from Royal, Muthaiga’s Evans Vitisia, Kitale’s Isaac Gitonga, Wade Kilburn, and Paul Kaguamba from Karen, among others, who delivered top performances in their respective home clubs’ tournaments. They will aim to build on their commendable performances at their home club’s tournaments.

Among the ladies, Noni Wanyee, winner of the ladies’ category at Limuru Golf Club, Kakamega’s Lydia Aketch, and Vetlab’s Mary Karano are also expected to return top scores at the tournament.

Commenting on the preparations, the Sigona Golf Club Captain Pratik Sanghrajka stated, “The tournament preparations are in their final stages, and the course is in excellent condition, thanks to the ongoing rains. We are ready to welcome the finest amateur golfers for a great day of golf and we look forward to the tournament.”

NCBA Group Managing Director, John Gachora, expressed his excitement, stating, “This has been a wonderful journey for us since we set sail in March this year. The Grand Finale marks the culmination of a highly successful golf series that kicked off early in the year. With top amateur players from across the country set to battle it out, we can expect nothing but the very best of what the series has had to offer.”

Reflecting on the series’ impact, Mr. Gachora added, “The overwhelming participation from across the East African region, with over 3,000 golfers taking part, speaks to our initial goal of promoting the sport by giving as many golfers as possible a chance to play and improve their competitive skills. It’s a testament to our commitment to supporting the growth of the sport in the region, which continues to show great potential.”

Having expanded its reach across East Africa, the 2023 NCBA Golf Series has become a regional sensation, with events held in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. The series, now in its third edition, has attracted over 3,000 golfers from diverse backgrounds and skill levels, providing a platform for friendly competition and talent showcase.

The Series teed off in March at the Kenya Railway Golf Club, with subsequent qualifiers hosted at various clubs across Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

The Sigona Golf Club, nestled along the Nairobi-Naivasha highway in Kikuyu, provides a serene atmosphere amidst flowery bushes, beautiful bushes, and scenic greenery. Established in 1938, this private member club features a modern clubhouse and a championship-standard golf course.
