Inua Jamii Beneficiaries Must Withdraw The Funds Before March 10

If you know any elderly person who is a beneficiary of the Inua Jamii program by the government, tell them to go and withdraw their money from the bank on or before March 10, 2025, or else the government will take back everything.

Inua Jamii is a government program where senior citizens, aged 70 and above receive a stipend of 2,000 shillings per month, often paid after every two months. The announcement will most likely get more than the 500,000 beneficiaries off-guard.

The program, started by President Uhuru Kenyatta, also sends cash to orphans, children, and persons living with disabilities. The recent announcement follows Inua Jamii’s transition from using banks to send cash to sending cash directly to the recipient’s mobile phone numbers.

The Directorate of Social Assistance, Moses Kamau, acknowledged that some beneficiaries had yet to withdraw funds from their bank accounts despite the migration to the new payment model.

“To ensure a seamless transition into the new payment system, all beneficiaries are notified that they should withdraw their funds on or before March 10, 2025,” Kamau stated.

He further warned that any uncollected funds remaining in bank accounts after this date would be reclaimed by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection.

Beneficiaries who experience challenges withdrawing their funds or adapting to the new system are encouraged to seek assistance from the nearest social protection office or contact their designated regional officers. The Ministry reassures all eligible recipients that the transition is designed to enhance convenience and accessibility while maintaining the integrity of the cash transfer program.
