Why The Kenyan Government Needs Alleviate To Better Inua Jamii Program

The government recently rolled out the second mass registration for the Inua Jamii program with a target of bringing on board at least 500,000 senior citizens as well as persons living with disabilities. The registration has been taking place across the country.

The program, just like any other social protection program in Kenya, has often been marred with corruption allegations, prolonged delays, nepotism, and seclusion during registrations. Chiefs have specifically been accused of corruption and registering their family members.

Even the recent registration has been marred with corruption allegations too. Chiefs in counties such as Bungoma and Narok were accused of asking for bribes before registering the most vulnerable in society. Many who qualified were locked out because they lacked bribes.

But all these challenges can be avoided if the relevant authorities in Kenya embraced Alleviate, a system launched in Kenya by Bewsys and one that is set to enable over 4.1 billion people on Earth to have access to social protection.

One of the key challenges faced by social protection programs in Kenya is the efficient management of beneficiary data. Traditional paper-based systems are not only time-consuming but also prone to errors and fraud. Many corrupt individuals are taking advantage of the current old systems.

Alleviate eliminates these challenges by providing a robust digital platform for capturing accurate and up-to-date information. Through mobile devices and web applications, field workers can directly input data, ensuring real-time updates and minimizing the risk of duplication or misinformation.

With Alleviate, the government and other organizations can collect, verify, and update data on beneficiaries of various social programs, such as cash transfers, health insurance, and education subsidies.
