The total number of Covid-19 confirmed cases in Kenya has hit 1,214 after 22 more cases were confirmed on Sunday.

According to the Ministry of Health, a total of 1,108 samples were tested in Nairobi, Mombasa and other parts of the country.

The announcement comes after President Uhuru Kenyatta announced the confirmation of 31 new cases on Saturday.

Of the new 22 confirmed cases, Nairobi registered 10 cases, Mombasa 9 cases, Taita Taveta 1 case as well as Kwale County.

Men continue registering higher positive cases as compared to women. On Sunday, the number of men who tested positive is 17 while that of women stood at 5.

The number of fatalities had risen to 51 after one more person lost his life from Mathare in Nairobi.

The Ministry of Health says Kenyans who had been stranded in India and who arrived in the country are still under “strict watch” and that update on their heath will be issued in due course.

On Saturday, President Uhuru Kenyatta hinted on lifting the directives on the cessation of movement as well as curfews but did not give the exact timelines of when the suspension of the directive is likely to take place.

According to President Uhuru Kenyatta, if the restrictions on movement of persons is lifted and the numbers spike, Kenyans will have themselves to blame.

Currently, there is a cessation of movement in and out of Nairobi, Kwale, Mombasa and Lamu Counties, as well as in and out of Eastleigh in Mombasa and Old Town in Mombasa.

During the month, the government announced the opening of restaurants but only after meeting the requirements of testing all the staff as well as observing social distance among customers.
