Home Ownership Through Construction: A Fire Chat With Absa Bank

KEY POINTS

The Twitter Space, titled Home Ownership Through Construction, comes a few days after Absa Bank provided a 6.7-billion-shilling financing facility to Acorn to construct hostels worth at least 12,000 beds, pushing the total bed portfolio for the company to 21,000 beds.

Some say it is easy to buy a home than it is to construct one. Some believe the opposite. The debate always goes on and on, with no end. As the push for affordable housing gains momentum, the debate on which model fits better just got hotter.

As they say, it doesn’t matter how much you are paying for rent, or which posh gated community you stay in, for as long as you do not have a home on your name, you are and will always be homeless. The subject of home ownership, therefore, is not something to be discussed in passing.

As much as the discussion on home ownership might seem easy and controversial at the same time, buying or constructing a house is not a walk in the park. In most cases, one needs massive resources and immense sacrifices for one to succeed.

To help Kenyans understand the whole process of owning a home through construction, and how one can be supported by the giant financial institution, Absa Bank Kenya has organized a Twitter Space to break down and demystify the whole process.
