Boniface Kamau, Ksh 424.7 Million SportPesa Mega Jackpot Winner, Says He Will Quit His Job

SportPesa Mega Jackpot winner Boniface Kamau says he has no intention of returning to his casual job after securing one of the largest betting payouts in Kenya. Kamau was announced the winner of the Sh424,660,718 prize on August 4, 2025, after correctly predicting the outcomes of 17 football matches earlier in the year.
Speaking on Wednesday during a celebratory evening, Kamau cut a calm figure as he acknowledged the size of the windfall and the life changes it brings. He was unequivocal about his employment plans.
“Job ni kama imeisha. Hio imeenda hivo. Hio ni kama imeenda,” he said.
The remark loosely translates to, “The job is as good as done. That is gone.”
Kamau said he has used the SportPesa platform for the past ten years. He added that the win will not change his habits as a fan of placing bets.
“I have been betting for a decade and I do not plan to stop now,” he said, noting that responsible participation remains a personal choice he intends to manage carefully.
Beyond his plans, Kamau emphasized a desire to give back. He spoke alongside his wife about channeling part of the winnings into community support initiatives that can make a measurable difference for others.
“This is not only about us. We want to help where we can,” he said, without disclosing specific projects or timelines. He suggested that philanthropic commitments would be shaped after a period of reflection.
Pressed on how he would spend the money, Kamau shared advice from his mother that he intends to follow before making major decisions.
“She told me to go on a vacation and think about what I want,” he said. “I will take that time to plan.”
SportPesa Chief Executive Officer Ronald Karauri, who joined the celebrations, congratulated Kamau and urged him to filter the pressure and unsolicited opinions that often follow life-changing wins. Karauri encouraged the winner to be deliberate with the money and to seek credible guidance.
“There will be a lot of advice, and not all of it will be helpful,” Karauri said. He added that thoughtful investment can protect the prize and create long-term value, pointing Kamau to practical options that align with his goals and risk tolerance.
Kamau’s victory was secured by a flawless streak on a 17-match coupon, a feat that demands precision over multiple leagues and fixtures. The payout, announced on August 4, capped months of anticipation for him and for fellow bettors who follow the Mega Jackpot numbers closely.
Friends and family described Kamau as grounded even in the glow of national attention. At the event, he remained composed, posing for photos and accepting congratulations with restraint. He did not disclose his former employer, but he described his work as casual and said the winnings allow him to step away without hesitation.
“I am calm,” he said. “I know this is a lot of money. I will use it well.”
Financial consultants typically advise jackpot winners to pause before making major purchases, consolidate obligations, and build a diversified plan that matches their priorities. Kamau’s decision to take time out appears aligned with that measured approach, especially as he balances personal goals with the philanthropic ambitions he and his wife outlined.
The celebration closed with a brief acknowledgment of the journey that brought him to this moment. Ten years of playing, one extraordinary streak of correct picks, and a future that will now be written on different terms. For Kamau, the first step is simple and intentional.
