Why Parents Need to Plan Better for their Children’s Education

Parents look forward to providing high quality education for their children. This is because they know that a good education leads to a better paying job. They understand that success in school means their children will be better equipped to raise and support a healthy and happy family. They also recognize that quality schooling means their children will be able to make wise life choices and effectively function well in our rapidly changing, competitive and technical world.

When schools, families, and community groups work together to support learning, children tend to do better in school, stay in school longer, and like school more. Every parent wants their children to have the best education, which includes going to the best educational centers and being taught by the best tutors. At the end of it all, children will end up living their dreams and being successful.

Despite such wishes from parents, one thing that most of them have failed in, is the process of planning for their children’s education. Planning is key in making sure that all the educational needs of your child are met at the expected time. Everything needs to be planned for thus making your child’s education life easy and enjoyable.

Planning for your child’s education not only means taking them to the best school, paying a lot of money for school fees and leaving them under the care of teachers but also that parents need to be involved in the affairs of their children while in school. This is one area that most of them have failed as they leave everything to the teachers, yet they fail to understand that for their child to do well, they need both assistance from both the parent and the teacher.

Sometimes, your child may have problems in school. He or she may not be performing as expected on tests. They may get lower grades than they are capable of achieving. Your child may struggle academically at school. Problems in school can lead to behavior problems that can, in turn, result in suspension from school. Children who have academic or behavior problems are at greater risk of dropping out of school and not continuing their education.

One kind of parental involvement is school-based and includes participating in parent-teacher conferences and functions, and receiving and responding to written communications from the teacher. Parents can also serve as school volunteers for the library or lunchroom, or as classroom aides. Parents can participate in their children’s schools by joining Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) or Parent Teacher Organizations (PTOs) and getting involved in decision-making about the educational services their children receive. Almost all schools have a PTA or PTO, but often only a small number of parents are active in these groups.

It is not just about taking your child to school and letting them learn. It takes the effort of the parent, teacher and the child. Parents have given a lot of priority to their jobs as compared to the time assigned to their children. Every child needs parental care, where time is also key.
