Nairobi Chosen as The Best Investment Hub by Cigna

Multinational global health solutions and insurance company Cigna has opened its Africa headquarters in Nairobi, further ranking Nairobi higher as a top investment destination in the continent.

Cigna, which has offices in Antwerp in Belgium, Madrid in Spain, Florida in the United States of America, and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, has now opened its new offices at the One Africa business hub in Westlands as it targets multinationals and its major client the United Nations (UN).

Arjan Toor, Cigna’s CEO International Organizations, said on Thursday, June 20 that the decision to open an office in Nairobi was because of Nairobi’s pull as an investment hub.

“Of course, we were sold on Kenya’s conducive investment and political climate. This means that more companies will continue to invest in Kenya and we will be looking to ensure that we grow our businesses as much as we can,” said Mr Arjan Toor.

Mr Toor also said that Cigna seeks to expand its local knowledge about the African market and to invest in locals so as to strengthen ties with its clients.

According to reports, Cigna conducted research since 2007 when they first opened their first small office at UN headquarters in Gigiri and found Nairobi to be a suitable investment hub to open the African headquarters.

“We already knew the market environment plus our main client (UN) was already here. Kenya is also a country with a huge young and active population for us,” said Mr Maxime Claessens who had been tasked with leading the Kenyan operation.

The company provides medical insurance and services to 95 million members globally and more than 250,000 members in Africa.
