Kenya could be having a new number of coronavirus as three more patients with suspicious signs were isolated at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) on Monday, March 16, 2020.

According to the Government, the three patients were isolated at KNH after they presented signs similar to those exhibited by Coronavirus patients.

“The three persons (at KNH) meet the criteria of suspect cases, which includes cough and difficulty in breathing,” said The Government spokesperson, Colonel Retired Cyrus Oguna.

The Government spokesperson Cyrus Oguna, also revealed that 14 other patients were being held at the Mbagathi hospital for monitoring.

“There are six patients at KNH – three who are confirmed to have the virus while the other three are suspected to be infected. The remaining 14 are being quarantined at Mbagathi.”

Colonel Oguna said that some two patients who showed signs of the virus were discharged after they tested negative for the covid-19.

Dr. Patrick Amoth, the acting Director General at the Ministry of Health, reported that the 14 patients being held at the Mbagathi facility will have to wait a little longer so that accurate results are determined.

“We cannot do it in a hurry and end up with a false negative. We would rather hold you longer for 12 or 14 hours but be able to give results that will stand the test of scrutiny in other laboratories,” Dr. Amoth stated.

If the patients test negative of the Coronavirus, they will be allowed to go home but under strict rules that they quarantine themselves for the next 14 days.

So far, Kenya has three confirmed cases of the deadly coronavirus where the first case was reported on Friday, March 13, 2020, and the other two were reported on Sunday, March 15, 2020.

The Government has however assured Kenyans that it has put in place all the necessary measures to ensure that the Coronavirus in the country does not escalate.

Globally, the number of infected persons is almost hitting 170.000 with over 6000 deaths reported. Patients who have recovered are about 77,000.
