Kiambu County Sets Aside Ksh. 30 Million to Fight Coronavirus

The Kiambu County Government, under the new governor, James Nyoro, has set aside a 30 million shillings kitty to help combat the spread of the coronavirus.

Governor James Nyoro says that the amount will be distributed among three level 5 hospitals in the county, namely Kiambu, Thika and Gatundu, and other health facilities in the county. Each hospital is expected to have about 10 million shillings dedicated to prepare if and when the coronavirus hits the county.

The governor said the county has enough funds to procure what is required in terms of sanitation and protective gear.

On top of that, Dr. Nyoro announced that the county had come to the decision to waiver hospital bills for 55 patients who had been detained across hospitals in the county so as to reduce human traffic in hospitals. “The amnesty has also been extended to the morgues,” Nyoro said.

The county has 60 beds in isolated wards.

The Kiambu county government has also banned discos, music extravaganzas, and table pool games, but said that bars, pubs and night clubs would not be closed.

Seven water companies in Kiambu county have also been directed to install adequate standpipes and water fountains outside all hospitals, in markets and at police stations and other areas frequented by the public for ease of regular hand-washing.

“We will be requiring that every eating place, including shops, to have a hand-washing facility. We will be inspecting and if we come across a place without a hand-washing facility without soap we will close it,” James Nyoro said.

Public service vehicles should also have hand sanitizers.  “We are asking supermarkets and malls to discourage idling and loitering on their premises.

The Kiambu county government has also provided each sub-county with an ambulance to handle emergencies.
