We all at some point in life get attached to our material belongings, even if they have no use in our lives, we forget that this attachment will grow and go on for weeks, months and maybe years, the more we get or purchase new staff. You might be among the lucky few who can afford that extra room for storage but what happens to that person who lives in a tiny room full of things from clothes, electronics to other things that we can’t describe but love to keep. How about that student who’s dorm room is filled with books, DVD’s, CD’s and musical instruments?

We keep on complaining that we can’t afford this and that, but have you ever thought of selling the junk in your house? Picture this, sell all your junk and buy that flat screen TV you have always wanted or a nice laptop to help you out with school projects. You can just sell them without thinking and make money to meet more of your financial needs. In fact, you might even have money to start a business or explore other economic ventures.

Sometimes we rarely notice when our homes get cluttered, because we are too busy and we keep postponing the ‘Declutter’ days .According to OLX Country Manager,Peter Ndiang’ui, there are a lot of unused items lying around in homes across the country gathering dust, instead of being given a second shelf life, he continues, “At OLX, we are committed to helping people unlock the money hidden in used items. We are delighted to note that more people are embracing online classifieds notable from the 37% drop in hoarding of used goods. People are buying more, consuming more, and in the process wasting more. OLX helps people waste less through collaborative consumption and extending the life-cycle of the products,”

A 37% drop of hoarded house hold items from Shs 158 billion in 2014 to KES 115 Billion in 2015 has been noted. Now that Kenyans have realized they are sitting on a gold mine and the internet is not as complicated as they thought, the sale of unused goods on OLX is improving. The AC Nielsen research also shows that the economy will be promoted, and the demand for goods and services will go up, and people will be able to upgrade to newer better items from the money they save from selling an old item.
