Tuskys CEO makes timely clarification on Tuskys Beba Beba allegations

Tuskys CEO, Dan Githua, took to Twitter to make clarifications about a story printed by the popular business newspaper Business Daily Africa regarding one of Tuskys’ most popular branches in Nairobi, Tuskys Beba Beba.  The Business Daily wrote on the suspension of employees at Tuskys’ Tom Mboya Street store, Tuskys Beba Beba in Nairobi on suspicion of internal theft.

An internal audit report by the retailer pointed out huge losses in certain stock categories from Tusky’s Beba Beba branch. Action had to be taken and it was. The matter was reported to authorities for investigation first. As it is common procedure when it comes to investigations, staff members at Tuskys Beba Beba were asked to step aside so that they wouldn’t compromise the investigation by the CID. As it is, the procedure with their union CBA, the staff members of Tuskys Beba Beba branch were asked to take a 14 day suspension.

The CEO acknowledged that it was likely not all the staff were involved in the crime. He indicated that those who will not be found culpable will be reinstated to work with full pay immediately investigations are completed.

The Business Daily also reported that the union would move to court if its request for a meeting is not honored. A move that now seems uncalled for as the CEO went on to say that they have invited the union leadership for discussions on ways to deal with rampant theft on 11 June. “We trust that the union leadership will put the interest of honest employees before those of the dishonest ones,” he said.

This is a bold move by the chain considering that the Retail Trade Association of Kenya reported that supermarket chains are losing goods worth Sh3.5 billion annually to shoplifters.

Tuskys Beba Beba is one of the popular supermarkets in Nairobi’s CBD located at a prime location. It attracts lots of customers thanks to their pocket friendly prices that guarantee you more.
