The 1st African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Country Review Of Kenya

Kenya was first peer reviewed at AU 2006 Banjul Summit. And during this review, Kenya was complimented on several fronts.

Such fronts were as the presence of highly efficient tax collection system that enabled the Government to finance over 90% of its budget, a far much low Aid Dependency, effective MTEF Process of a 3 year Budgetary system, tremendous democracy or openness as well as the expansion of democratic space through a vibrant media and civil society, high degree of human rights and political freedom, openness and frankness in debating corruption both in print and electronic media and also significant progress in the development of codes of Good Corporate Governance.

However, despite these complements, there were some key issues that were identified and that the country needed to address such as managing diversity in nation building, constitutional reform and consensus building, corruption, poverty and wealth distribution, land, gender inequality, youth Unemployment, and transformative leadership.

The Government of Kenya has begun preparations for the second Country Review of Kenya by undertaking the African Peer Review Mechanism, APRM Country Self-Assessment.

This process will culminate in the development of a comprehensive Kenya Country Self-Assessment Report and a National Programme of Action (NPoA) and the APRM Self-Assessment Report will be validated by a wide cross section of stakeholders drawn from every county.

The Country Self-Assessment will pave way for the second APRM Country Review Mission and subsequent Peer Review at the APR Summit.
