What Has IFMIS Achieved?

BY · September 17, 2015 07:09 am

The central purpose of IFMIS is to oversee the implementation of a unified financial management system and its adoption across all the departments of the government and this has made tremendous contribution to improving transparency and accountability in all the functions of the government.

The system further sees the leveraging of industry leading process for financial management, aligned with the Oracle Financials, to enable the National Treasury to re-engineer their end-to-end business processes.

The facts is that IFMIS is benefiting Kenyans in all sectors of the economy and now than ever before, public funds are being spend for the purpose that they are specifically budgeted for and when you hear some saying that this system should not be in the Counties, then those are the enemies of public funds.

There are three key things that IFMIS has achieved;

  • It has brought about efficiency and transparency by eliminating wastage opportunities for corruption and, therefore, in the process, freeing the public funds for more beneficial projects.
  • It has improved the payment system to suppliers by introducing greater accountability as well as allowing cross referral between records at different stages during the procurement.
  • It has allowed justice to be dispensed more rapidly through ensuring that records are not lost, and can be seen simultaneously by more than one party.
