Kenya Airways in Partnership to Market Kenya as MICE Destination

BY · October 7, 2015 09:10 am

What happens when a force comes together to unite with another force? The result: An even greater force. What am I talking about exactly?

I’m talking about two of Kenya’s economic giants, Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) and Kenya Airways, coming together to unleash a force like never before. The force that is Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions, (MICE). Or simply MICE as conference or business tourism.

Dependents on traditional tourism has proved to be unreliable, especially in the face of travel advisories unilaterally imposed by western countries occasioned by terror activities that have been experienced in some parts of the country.

The MICE business has a very large and lucrative potential in generating incomes and creating jobs, a factor we just can’t let pass. Africa controls 3.2 percent market share of the World’s MICE sector of which Kenya controls only 0.3 percent. In Africa, Kenya controls 10 percent of the MICE market share. So why not grow this statistics for the benefit of the country?

Which is why the KICC and KQ share in this vision for growth. These two giants have recognised the importance of the development of the MICE tourism jointly.

As a result, they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate close collaboration to promote conference tourism in Kenya. Both public bodies will cooperate in various ways to give the country’s tourism sector a major boost. So that while KICC will be the place to be, KQ, the Pride of Africa, will get you to that place. Simply put, Pride Meets Destination!

The MICE is one such big thing that will launch more even bigger things for Kenya. This type of conference tourism is what will aid Kenya’s tourism sector with a loud big bang. When MICE flourishes, the country will reap the fine fruits of having luminous minds which generate bright, working ideas. But to get to this point, KICC and KQ are teaming up, to help the country get there by getting there.
