Nairobi Java House has plans to expand its business across Africa. Java House is a chain of coffee houses and packed coffee exporters. Founded in 1999, the coffee house has 36 outlets in the country. Currently the coffee house only has one outlet outside Kenya in Kampala, the capital of Uganda.

The managing director Kevin Ashley said the house is planning to open doors in Kigali, Dar es Salaam, Lagos, Lusaka and Accra in the next five years.

In May 2012 Java sold a Majority stake to An American Private Equity firm marking a significant milestone.

The 2012 Economic Survey report shows that the hotels and restaurants business contributed Sh51 billion to Kenya’s gross domestic product last year, a 112.5 per cent growth since 2008 when it was worth Sh24 billion.

Apart from coffee, they also have a planet yoghurt brand, an outlet serving frozen yoghurt and has one pizzeria outlet called 360 Degrees but they plan to focus on coffee.
